Global Peace Service Alliance provides the framework for the meaningful peace building, but reconciling enemies, embittered by violence, is not easy. It requires work, says Yeqing Li, secretary general of Youth Federation for World Peace, who traveled to Mindanao to support the festival. But the dream of peace, of one human family, is in the hearts of all people. When people taste peace they find it is sweeter than the enmity they are holding. This is what the GPF can offer.

United Nations, New York, 24 August 2010 - The United Nations is dispatching a senior staff member to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as senior officials express outrage at the recent rape and assault of more than 150 civilians by rebels based in the remote and troubled east of the country. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his Special Representative for Sexual Violence in Conflict, Margot Wallström, condemned the attacks, saying they demonstrated the widespread level and systematic nature of sexual violence in the DRC. Kenyan tree-planting activist Wangari Maathai became a UN Messenger of Peace during the Copenhagen Climate Talks. A delegate to her Green Belt Movement, RRI's Elizabeth Baker was in the second row as UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon pinned a dove on Professor Maathai to symbolize the honor shared by only a handful of others. Professor Maathai spoke vividly of the role of activism in protecting civil society's interests worldwide and called for climate action in a Copenhagen deal.
International Day of Peace Monday 21st September, 2009 To celebrate International Day of Peace, A Ray of Hope, UNESCO Youth Ambassador for the Culture of peace has organised three competitions. Our thanks to Sara for the design and production of the video. The music, Put the Message is from our friend Brian Kennedy, who kindly joined with us in our first CD A Ray of Hope and Friends. Snippets of photographs of World Heritage Sites have been used and unfortunately we do not know who the photographers are but we thank, and acknowledge them for their contribution, and hope that the use of them for this purpose is to their satisfaction. Photographs of the children are from A Ray of Hopes global projects. The competition, which will finish on 21st September, is just yet another medium for caring and sharing. By entering a comment on YouTube you will be immediately entered into a free prize draw (please add your country of residence). If you wish a competition slightly more challenging, then look at the World Heritage Sites on the video there are 6 and use the first 6 letters of their countries of location to spell out an international organisation. You may not need all of the countries or letters to determine the organisation. Do not enter the name of the organisation on YouTube but send directly to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it The prizes will be large original Nepalese batiks. No matter where you are in the world we will attempt to deliver the item to you. One of last years winners lived in Brazil. Your user name on YouTube will be your entry label and contact details can be determined on announcement of the winners. Similarly your email address will be your entry contact for the second competition. Winners will be notified on 22nd September. Although this is a form of celebration we still must adhere to a few rules. After what is deemed to be a reasonable length of time, if contact cannot be made with the winners we do reserve the right to award the prizes to the next most appropriate winner. A third prize will be awarded to the comment that A Ray of Hope believes to be the closest to its ethos. Enjoy Don
