Millennium Development Goals: 2010 Progress Chart

MDG Progress Chart 2010 - NEW!

ProgressChart2010_En.jpgMost of the targets included in the Millennium Development Goals framework are to be achieved by 2015 — promising clear and measurable improvement on standards prevailing in 1990 by the end of 2015. The MDG Progress Chart 2010 presents an assessment of progress as of June 2010 towards selected key targets relating to each Goal.

Marking the start of a new century—and a new chapter in human history—United Nations Member States agreed in 2000 on eight Millennium Development Goals. The vision propelling the initiative, set out in the Millennium Declaration, is a world with less poverty, hunger and disease and greater access to health care and education; a world in which women and men have equal opportunities and natural resources are conserved for future generations. The MDGs also call for a global partnership for development involving the private sector and civil society that includes sharing the benefits of new technologies with countries worldwide.

At two thirds of the way, how much progress so far?
Progress towards the MDGs is monitored through a set of 21 measurable and time-bound targets and 60 indicators. Most of the targets are to be achieved by 2015 and start from a 1990 baseline. This chart presents an assessment of progress so far for selected indicators and regions, on the basis of information available as of June 2010. While some indicators reflect data as recent as 2010, others rely on older statistics, dating as far back as 2005.
